MPRIME Replaces ePREP in October: Return-to-Provider Applications Need Action, Courtesy Reviews Available During the Enrollment Hold

Two related enrollment notices landed in late August.

MPRIME cutover. MDH Medicaid released transmittals PT 14-27 (updated MPRIME resources) and PT 23-27 (changes to the Return to Provider application process) ahead of the move from ePREP to MPRIME in October 2026. Any application in ePREP with Return to Provider status needs to be addressed before the transition.

Courtesy reviews during the hold. On August 21, MDH issued a memo for behavioral health and ABA providers who are not yet enrolled and cannot enroll because of the application hold in effect from July through October 2026. Those providers can complete Carelon's temporary process to register their NPI, receive a temporary vendor ID for authorizations, and register for ProviderConnect with their Carelon ID (Customer Service EDI team: 1-800-888-1965, press 1, then 3, then 7). While in pending status, providers may submit authorization requests only. Claims submitted before Medicaid enrollment completes will be denied and must be resubmitted once the Medicaid ID is issued, at which point Carelon voids the temporary vendor ID and replaces it with a permanent one.

    What to do

    • Check ePREP now for any application in Return to Provider status and resolve it before October.
    • If you are waiting on enrollment, complete the temporary registration with Carelon and hold claims until your Medicaid ID issues.
    • Watch for MPRIME training announcements; Carelon has been posting session dates through the summer.
